Is Sphinx Airport in Cairo?

Not exactly. Sphinx International Airport is technically in Giza Governorate, on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road near Kerdasa — on the western edge of Greater Cairo rather than inside the city of Cairo itself.

It's often described loosely as a "Cairo airport" because it serves the Greater Cairo metropolitan area and sits fairly close to it, but it's a genuinely separate facility from Cairo International Airport (CAI), which is on the opposite side of the city, roughly 46 km away.

The distinction matters mainly for ground transport planning — the two airports don't have a direct shuttle or terminal connection, so if you're flying in and out on different airports, you'll need separate transfers for each leg.

Sphinx Airport (the transfer company) runs licensed, fixed-price transfers to and from both airports, so whichever one your flight uses, the ground transport side is covered.

For practical purposes, most travellers simply treat SPX as "a Cairo airport" when planning flights, while treating ground transport as a separate booking specific to whichever terminal or airport their flight actually uses.
